The 2016 Aspen Valley 8-goal got started in a cat-and-mouse duel between Pony Express (Benji Daniels, Justin Daniels, Gonzalo Di Ciurcio and Tomas Goti) and GSA (Belinda Brody, Henry Porter, Tony Calle and Tommy Garbarini) before Pony Express exploded for four fourth chukker goals to tie it at 7-7. The overtime goal belonged to Gonzalo Di Ciurcio and Pony Express celebrated the 8-7 victory in the afternoon match.
Henry Porter showed maturity in the opening chukker as he piled up three goals for his GSA team. Benji Daniels responded with the only goal of the period for Pony Express, who trailed 3-1 after the first seven minutes of play.
GSA continued to batter the Pony Express defenders in the second period, adding four more goals (three from Parker and a single goal from Tony Calle. Pony Express was held scoreless and fell behind, 7-1 at the end of the second chukker of the four chukker contest.
Pony Express had regrouped during the halftime intermission and had a different look to them as they took the field in the second half. Benji Daniels opened the scoring in the third period with a goal from the field followed by a goal from teammate Tomas Goti. GSA was unable to score but continued to lead by four goals, 7-3.
Benji Daniels added two more goals in the fourth period and teammate Goti scored a goal on a 30-yard penalty conversion and added a game tying goal from the field that ushered the game into sudden-death overtime.
It was Di Ciurcio who scored the winning goal for Pony Express in the overtime chukker for the 8-7 victor.
Benji Daniels’ four goals le the Pony Express attack. Goti added three goals and Di Ciurcio scored the winning goal in the overtime. Porter led the game om scoring with six goals (two on penalty conversions). Calle added a goal for the loss.
