Opening wins for Scribble Horse and Palm City mark the start of the 2016 WCT finals

The 2016 WCT Championships got off to a roaring start at the Grand Champions Polo Club Friday morning with Scribble Horse Polo (Kathy Iverson, Katherine Roze, Courtney Asdourian and Kirstie Allen) scoring an impressive 9-2 win over Creative Marketing (Lyndsay Dolan, Dawn Weber, Amanda Roberts and Ashley Mckenzie) in the first round of competition.
Opening goals from Courtney Asdourian (30-yard penalty conversion) and Katherine Roze went unanswered in the opening chukker. Creative Marketing was unable to mount a successful attack and fell behind 2-0.
Roze scored her second goal of the match in the second chukker while a solid defensive effort by Scribble Horse Polo held Creative Marketing scoreless for the second consecutive chukker. Scribble Horse Polo left the field at the end of the first half on top of a 3-0 score.
Asdourian added a goal from the field to open the second half, extending the Scribble Horse Polo team’s lead to four goals, 4-0. Lyndsay Dolan finally got Creative Marketing on the scoreboard with her team’s first goal of the match, 4-1. Kirstie Allen made her presence known in the Scribble Horse Polo with the closing goal of the chukker. Propelling Scribble Horse Polo into a four goal lead, 5-1.
Ashley Mckenzie scored the first goal of the final chukker for Creative Marketing, but the battle had already been lost. Asdourian scored her third goal of the day as Scribble Horse celebrated the 6-2 victory.
Asdourian led the field with three goals. Roze scored twice and Allen was credited with a goal for the win. Dolan and Mckenzie scored single goals in a losing effort by Creative Marketing.
Palm City Polo 9, Catena USA 2
In the second one-sided win of the day, Tiffany Busch scored six times in leading Palm City Polo (Jaqui Casey, Hope Arellano, Tiffany Busch and Meli Galindo) past Catena USA (Malia Bryan, Belinda Brody, Cecelia Cochran and Leah Masters) in a 9-2 romp.
Hope Arellano got the game started with the opening goal for Palm City Polo followed by a pair of goals from Tiffany Busch. Catena USA was unable to break through a disciplined Palm City Polo defense and fell behind, 3-0.
Arellano and Busch added single goals in the second period to make it 5-0. Catena USA continued to have difficulties establishing a rhythm to their offense and fell behind by five goals to end the first half.
Catena USA got third chukker goals from Leah Masters and Cecelia Cochrane, but Palm City Polo’s Busch matched them goal for goal (one on a penalty conversion). The third chukker ended with Palm City Polo riding a 7-2 led.
Palm city Polo added fourth chukker goals from Jaqui Casey and Busch (a 60-yard penalty conversion). Catena was denied a goal for the third time in four chukkers in the 9-2 Palm City Polo victory.
Busch led all scoring with six goals. Arellano scored twice and Casey added a goal for the win. Masters and Cochrane each scored a goal for Catena USA n a losing effort.
Friday’s games set the teams for the 4pm WCT final with Scribble Horse Polo facing Palm City Polo in the tournament final. A consolation match between Creative Marketing and Catena USA is scheduled to be played at 3pm with a WCT Junior Invitational slated to be played at 5pm.
