Wins by Grand Champions and SeaCap in Madelon Bourdieu Menorial

Saturday wins by SeaCap (Mike Davis, Virginia Ingram, Nick Manifold and Wes Finlayson) and Grand Champions (Will Jacobs, Tato Bollini, Alex Webb and Juan Bollini) set the tone for this year’s Madelon Bourdieu Memorial 6-goal at the Grand Champions Polo Club.
In the opening game of the day Shamir Quraeshi scored the first goal from the field for Smithfield followed by SeaCap goals from Wes Finlayson and Nick Manifold (on a penalty conversion). SeaCap took the early lead, 2-1, in the four chukker match. Manifold added three more goals in the second period, scoring twice from the field and adding another penalty goal. The SeaCap defense held Smithfield scoreless and moved in front by four goals, 5-1.
SeaCap continued to dominate into the second half, picking up third chukker goals from Manifold and Finlayson. For the second straight chukker, Smithfield was unable to get on the scoreboard and fell behind by six goals, 7-1.
Julio Ezcurra scored his first goal of the day and Smithfield’s second goal of the afternoon, but they trailed by five goals and there wasn’t much time left. Finlayson scored the final goal of the game as he helped deliver the 8-2 victory.
Manifold led all scoring with five goals. Finlayson added three goals for the victory. Quraeshi and Ezcurra each scored a goal for a Smithfield team that had trouble getting its attack on track.
Grand Champions 5½, Pony Express 4
Grand Champions (Will Jacobs, Tato Bollini, Alex Webb and Juan Bollini) received 1½ goals by handicap and England’s Alex Webb scored the first two goals of the game from the field. The Grand Champions defense kept Pony Express (Landen Daniels, Justin Daniels, Bautista Urbina and Bob Daniels) from scoring. It was Grand Champions with the early lead, 3½ to 0.
Bautista Urbina got Pony Express back on track with a pair of goals from the field, 3½ to 2. Juan Bollini converted a 60-yard penalty shot for the final goal of the chukker and a 4½ to 2 lead at the end of the first half.
Urbina converted a 30-yard penalty shot for Pony Express in the third period, 4½ to 3. Tato Bollini sent the ball through the Pony Express goalposts, and the third chukker ended with Grand Champions riding a 5½ to 3 lead.
Pony Express pulled out all of the stops in the final period of play. In a defensively-oriented chukker, Landen Daniels scored the only goal between the two teams as Grand Champions held on for the 5½ to 4 win.
